Calvin Klein Collection Pre-Fall 2012

Just came across this Calvin Klein Pre-Fall show by accident and since it was very recent I thought I'd write about it.

When the show first opened the first thing I thought of was the eighties and power dressing. Sleek hair, structured shoulders and on the knee skirts, all in shades of khaki. Archetypal examples of power dressing. Although the skirt's chunky pleat adds a certain vintage femininity along with peep-toe shoes.

As the show went on it was clear that heavy fabrics as well as pleating were going to be heavily featured, providing an interesting contrast between femininity and border-line masculinity.

And if the show wasn't an homage to the eighties before then it definitely was after this coral overcoat was shown. Everything is over-sized, the shoulders, the sleeves, the lapel with a narrow waist exaggerating the rest of the jacket.

From this point on the collection became more feminine, the neckline becoming lower, the hem-line rising and the pleats growing smaller making the dress feel much more delicate in contrast to the rest of the collection.

Although this femininity was short-lived, the show continued with monochrome shades of black and grey, featuring pencil skirts and a more discrete pleat.

The show continued with shades of beige and an addition of crochet detailing, adding more femininity to the collection and then finished with my personal favourite, a black pleated dress with crochet detailing across the shoulders and a crochet underskirt:

If this show indicates anything in regards to pre-fall show trends we can expect dark colours, shades of khaki, possibly the return of power dressing and almost certainly blazers and pleated skirts staying very much on the high-street
